Overview

Monkview was founded durring the early 11th century, by Grëd Linnell Gunn. The establishment of the new community went well, though many minor issues had to be solved as time went on. This was enough to delay construction and push back the formal opening ceramony, leading to some embarisment for Grëd Linnell Gunn.

Monkview was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the early 11th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Monkview is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature plaster covered brickwork used to form structures with an emphasis on symmetry, proportion, geometry and the regularity of parts. Orderly arrangements of columns, pilasters and lintels, as well as the use of semicircular arches, hemispherical domes, niches and aediculae can be found everywhere such that only size of building and yard can be used to measure the general prosparity of a given building's owners due to a general wealthy feeling the style gives off.

Monkview is buildings are arranged arround a single premissive flagstone mainstreet with many smaller streets branching off of it which gives the town a over all rectangular shape, albit one warped and twisted by the nature of the curves of the main road. The town emploies a series of defencive earthworks and fences to provide minimal protection against wild beasts and smaller groups of intelegent foes. The town's somewhat suffishent are visibly old, but also obviously well maintained. Its likly the local malishia or garrison are tasked with routine mantance of the town's defences.

A look around Monkview shows Monkview as a den of corruption. Birbes can be seen changing hands openly, such that it must be customary to do so and must have been for a long time. The locals have no fear, no annoyance at the state of things, it simply is. The town has another layer to it as well. Locals can be overheard having academic discussions, as well as talking about scholarly subjects in general. It’s quite clear Monkview places a lot of value on education and being a learned individual, or at least, faking it.

Monkview has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Monkview.

Monkview has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Monkview's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Monkview possesses an older civil lighting system consisting of street lamps. These lights provide nighttime illumination to most city streets.

Monkview has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.

Monkview has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Cultural Notes

One or more crime bosses have a powerful influence within Monkview. They may control crime within the community itself, or they may use it simply as a safe haven from which to direct their minions elsewhere. Local law enforcement may know all about them, but lack the strength to confront them and their paid or intimidated henchmen.

Monkview's mayor's house was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is characterized by towering round arches, massive stone and brickwork, small windows, thick walls, and a propensity for housing art and sculpture depicting mythological scenes. The building's general shape would be a clever and ascetic combination of geometric shapes, which would be blended together by joining elements. The style's decorative features were largely internal rather than external and incorporated semicircular arches for windows, doors, and arcades; barrel or groin vaults to support the roof of the nave; massive piers and walls, with few windows, to contain the outward thrust of the vaults; side aisles with galleries above them..

In Monkview yeast remains dormant.

The Udaeus near Monkview are known to be more aggressive than normal.

Monkview's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in spring and involves creating small tokens to channel Augury energies of tier 1 via chanting.
